The first month of 2024 is down, time to briefly look back at January. Honestly, it wasn’t really perfect. But then, what can we expect from such a dark & rainy month? I went in being slightly sick, and leave being sick once again. Then I look at the art I made, and actually this wasn’t such a total crap at all! Let’s see:
Grist Imagine 2200
Grist Magazine is doing a yearly short story contest, called Imagine 2200. From over 1,000 submissions, they shortlisted 12, and let artists illustrate them. I’ve been commissioned to do three stories:
To Labor for the Hive by Jamie Liu (this year’s winner)
The Blossoming by Guglielmo Miccolupi and Laura C Zanetti-Domingues
and Accensa Domo Proximi by Cameron Neil Ishee (the newsletter’s header)
Short story illustration is something fun and engaging as an artist. I remember doing this as a practice when I was a student, so I love being hired for such projects. If you’re into short stories, read the whole shortlist here!
Totem and Friends
Those of you who read my last newsletter may remember that Totem artwork I sent along. The auction is now over, and look what happened to that piece 😅 absolute madness, and I love it! I never made such an artwork, or worked in such a way at all. Thanks for having me, Sirius!
You can watch a timelapse of how this all came together here.
Upcoming Livestream
I also wanted to have a special livestream this week, showing my animation process instead of drawing. It’s been moved to Monday now due for health reasons. Set your reminder here!
Soo…not such a bad month after all. And I didn’t even write anything about those fun animations I’ve been secretly working on since early December…
Thanks for reading today, and have a great February coming up!
